Over 5,000 public works professionals from around the world are expected to gather August 17-20 at McCormick Place in Chicago for the American Public Works Association’s PWX.
The program for this year’s annual gathering – the largest of its kind – will provide world-class education sessions on the most critical challenges in public works and infrastructure from the public and private sectors, according to a spokesperson for APWA. Sessions are scheduled to cover new strategies in funding and budgeting; career development and workforce solutions; asset management; emerging technologies; leadership and management; sustainable practices; emergency preparedness; and planning for livable communities.
In addition, the event’s education program aims to offer something for nearly everyone employed by the public works sector, from public works directors to city and county engineers to managers in transportation, solid waste and water services. Attendees can choose from more than 140 immersive, thought-provoking education sessions, technical learning tours, workshops and certificate programs. Among other topics, content will address construction management; emergency management; engineering and technology; facilities; fleet services; parks and grounds; snow and ice control; solid waste; stormwater/flood control; utilities/rights-of-way; and water and wastewater.
PWX attendees will also have access to respected industry vendors, product displays, prize drawings, live presentations and numerous interactive opportunities. The exhibit floor – spanning more than 99,000 square feet – will include a unique array of specialized areas designed to facilitate learning, foster innovation and support the advancement of public works practices.
