The Electric Utility Fleet Managers Conference saw record-breaking attendance at its 2024 event held June 2-5 in Williamsburg, Virginia. Over 500 industry professionals gathered for the annual event.

A total of 175 fleet representatives attended, including over 50 new members and eight new companies. They were joined by more than 360 attendees from nearly 100 manufacturers and suppliers, showcasing the latest vehicles, equipment and services.

EUFMC is my favorite industry show of the year because it’s a more intimate event. I love the networking and opportunities to have serendipitous conversations while hanging out at the Williamsburg Lodge. And the utility-specific fleet education never disappoints.

Some of the education topics included:

Electric Vehicle Transition: In his keynote, Navistar CEO Mathias Carlbaum presented his outlook on the challenges and opportunities with the industry’s transition to battery-electric vehicles (read the article). And there were specific sessions dedicated to taking the next steps with EVs, cost comparisons with internal combustion engines, charging infrastructure challenges and working toward a sustainable EV future.

Mutual Assistance Strategies: A panel of fleet managers discussed mutual assistance strategies and best practices they’ve implemented in recent years.

Regulatory Updates: A panel of medium- and heavy-duty truck experts discussed the impact of the upcoming EPA and CARB regulations on utility fleet operations.

Workforce Development: Two utility fleets shared their creative approaches and best practices for recruiting and retaining top technicians.

Artificial Intelligence: The conference examined the fast-moving world of AI and what fleet professionals need to do to embrace and use these emerging technologies effectively.

EUFMC also hosted its second annual Women in Utility Fleet gathering in 2024, which brought together more than 20 female fleet professionals for networking.

Putting together consistently excellent live events is no small task, but the EUFMC team has built a well-oiled machine. Congratulations to Ann Brown-Hailey, Seth Skydel, the EUFMC staff and the board of directors for putting on another fantastic show!
